Click here to read Conan O’Brien’s open letter about the horrible mess that is the Tonight Show situation.
Makes me love him even more.
And that hair.

Go Conan! Maybe the CBC will pick him up. Is it too early to have the unlikeliest story of the decade? But I can dream.
I think that might mean a raise in our taxes. ;) Sure would be rad. A bit early, but yes, one can dream.
Down with the chin! Up with the hair!
I imagine I’m the only person in the known universe who hasn’t watched any of these shows and has no idea what all the fuss is about.
Fearless: Here, here!
Barb: Probably. ;) Conan is worth tuning into, but if you’re not one for late night talk, probably not the best time to start watching.
I’ve never been a fan of Conan, so my comments to follow should not come as a surprise.
“…out of respect for the ‘Tonight Show’ brand and for Jimmy Fallon” — Umm… me thinks he is more interested in whether he is being seen as a failure, rather than having respect for other people’s work. He’s very quick to blame the network, and says nothing of his own performance. I don’t watch the show, but when Jay was on it I at least heard things in the media about the show – not anymore since Conan appeared.
“But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction.” — and here I thought it was putting Conan behind the desk did just that.
[lol, I know you completely disagree Allison. :P]
I really don’t think performance has anything to do with this, in fact, his ratings haven’t even been an issue in any of the discussions I have heard. It really is all about a very bad decision made by the network, to think they could run a talk show in prime time, Leno has even made statements to this affect.
I think people are rallying behind Conan because he has been placed in a shitty situation; moved his life and show to LA, Leno should have retired, and did not. And I could go on about how Conan is a better comedian, writer than Leno but I won’t as we clearly disagree. ;)
Predictions? Conan will go to FOX and you’ll get your Leno back.
I’m not sure what will happen. The public seems to be rallying behind Conan, so any talk of woulda, shoulda, coulda is a little irrelevant. Me thinks the network will back Conan, if only to avoid some backlash.
It won’t matter one way or another to me since I still don’t have a TV and can’t really remember when I last saw the show. But it’ll be interesting to see how the network handles it in the end.
But you’re right – I don’t think we’ll ever agree. :P
