and there is nothing i’d like more, than a twirl across this rickety old floor

The only thing positive about having to cover a Sunday shift is that no one else is here to bother me, and I can blast my music.

On this Sunday morning I am going with the ever vibrant Magnetic Fields.

What’s on your stereo this morning?

Oh, and I cannot wait to see this!

none of this sad bastard music

I woke up this morning with that line in my head, thinking I’m going to need some specific tunes to get me through this Monday. With a quick perusal through my music library I realise I have too many melancholy tunes that just don’t fit for a  start of the week pick up.

Must change this.

Favourite tune to blast in the morning?

and we now return to regularly scheduled programming

The duvet was pulled out last night as the temperature hovered around 10′C (50′F), suddenly the thin flat sheet wasn’t cutting it. At least with the duvet in place, the window can remain open. There is something quite peaceful about waking up to a cold morning still huddled under the blankets.

I’m switching back to my regular hours this week (Sunday-Thursday), finishing up final reports for the summer students (which frankly requires too much math for this Arts student), and dreading that I will have no more part-time staff and will be stuck two days a week at our other facility with no computer and limited access to my work files. This also means I can’t take days off without closing a museum, which I’m not allowed to do. *fist shake* Well, on the plus side I did get a new high back swivel chair for my office (which I bought myself). Now I can lean back and do steeple hands much more effectively.

Been watching a lot of CanCon recently (oh Slings and Arrows I do love you so) and I can’t recall if I’ve posted this before but if you get a chance you should watch This Movie is Broken especially if you’re a BSS fan. I’m not so much, but do find them enjoyable in small doses. I picked it up more for the Bruce McDonald.

Something you stumbled across recently that surprised you?

and if i start a commotion

PH: You know I don’t mind the Buzz, but calling themselves cocks…I don’t get it.

IC: Well they’re not calling themselves the Cocks are they? They’re calling themselves the Buzzcocks.

PH: (mumbles) Just couldn’t stand for it, that’s all.

Let summer concert season commence!

it is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Ah, the long  weekend.

Time to spend not doing work like things and sleeping in right?

I can never seem to master the sleeping in thing anymore, and I’m trying to get over a pesky stomach flu, so I’ve spent mine watching a lot of films, but I have good company, so all is not lost.

We started in with an old favourite, Princess Bride,  followed by Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and then I thought getting out of the house might help so we took in Hot Tub Time Machine, you know, feeling the need for stupid funny. Definitely a renter (should have seen How to Train Your Dragon), but you probably already knew that. Next up is Moon.

Do you have any good film recommends for a rainy weekend?

all day and all of the night

Just got back from seeing The Boat That Rocked (aka Pirate Radio), and the soundtrack is still ringing in my ears and makes me wish I had a shag carpet and my record player with me. Also some new boots, and a velvet blazer. Oh wait, I have the last one.

What’s the last film soundtrack that really struck a cord with you?

Some Kinks to kick off your Saturday…

This video kills me…ba ba ba ba…

Oh, Otis. Wish the quality was a little better on this one, but I’m sure you’ve heard it before.

if I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn’t be more surprised than I am now

There are certain movies that when you happen upon them on telly you just have to sit and watch them all the way through, no matter how many times you’ve seen them. Christmas Vacation is one of those movies for me.

My job is 65% event planning, so my concept of time is a bit skewed these days, as I’m already planning next year, and I break for the holidays in just over three weeks so that time of year is fast approaching for me. Usually after the American Thanksgiving you start to see the flood of holiday movies fill the television listings, and I saw and advert for Christmas Vacation last night and I couldn’t help but think how my life would be made if I was able to get my hands on these moose mugs.

I joke that my father is Clarke Griswold, and in all seriousness, it’s true. John Hughes hit the nail on the head when creating that character and Chevy Chase’s delivery is spot on. I’m sure I’m not the only one who identifies with the Griswold family, it’s part of the charm of the movies, and what makes them classics.

I remember last year around this time when I dug out my DVDs and announced to the Boy it was time to watch Christmas Vacation, and he admitted to never having seen any of them. After I picked my jaw up off the ground I told him if he was going to survive my family it was good to know a few things – that the Griswold’s are the best fictional representation of my family and you will at some point hear this speech from my father:

Well, I’ll tell you something. This is no longer a vacation! It’s a quest! It’s a quest for fun. I’m going to have fun and you’re going to have fun. We’re all going to have so much fucking fun, we’ll need plastic surgery to remove our goddamn smiles. You’ll be whistling zippity-doo-dah out of your assholes!

I felt it only fair to prepare the fellow for what he’s about to step into. When I’m back east next we’re going away on a short mini break with the parentals. I expect stories to come from that. As my family has one switch (go!) and the Boy operates on more of a laid back level. At the very least it will make for good blog talk.

What films can you watch year after year?

i’ve got the spirit, lose the feeling, let it out somehow

In my New Order listening this morning, I slipped into Joy Division mode.

Shocking, I know.

Had this song on repeat and it’s funny, because this week I’ve been thinking about this movie that accompanies this clip.

It’s nights like this that make me miss my dvd collection.
