My amazing friend Lou has just climbed to base camp on Mount Everest. Got word this morning. She is a rockstar and I’m so proud of her.
Its mother’s birthday today, we think.
She was either born on the 6th or 14th of September and no one in her family seems to recall (she was 1 of 11, middle child). She still gets miffed if we forget to mention it on the 6th, but we celebrate on the 14th. She and I are doing dinner and a movie this eve.
I went out in London last night with some co-workers and it was a great time, however there were a few of the opposite gender who still believe grinding up behind someone is a proper hello. It’s not. There was this one guy in particular who honestly persisted throughout the entire night with me. In an attempt to get my attention his “moves” included a hip-check, elbow tap, and my favourite, a head butt. Thankfully, I have fringe and it covers the bump from the last attempt. Honestly.
Well, now I’m headed out for tea with an old friend. The rain just stopped and the sun is peaking through the clouds. Hope everyone is having a lazy Sunday.

ha ha, head butt. what a dude….
yep. a pop collar, pucca shell wearing dude, the worst.
What were you doing hanging around with a seven-year-old boy anyway? He was seven, wasn’t he?
Happy sort of birthday to your mom! I hope you guys had a nice evening together. And congrats to your EVerest climbing friend! I cannot even begin to imagine doing that.
Hahaha!
I shall pass the wishes along, it was a nice evening. I know, I am so proud of her – I thought our spin class was bad enough. I can’t wait to hear the full report.
I am rather stunned that you would actually know someone that is climbing Mt. Everest. I hope she makes it all the way.
By the way a student of mine that graduated last year just wrote me from England and he was at a night club where the DJ sprayed the crowd with foam! He loved it. Is this a normal English nightclub? My clubbing days were so calm in comparison. No foam and definitely no head butts. I think I need to hear more about these night clubs.
Be careful being headbutted around the pop collar crowd — you don’t want the thickly starched edge of one of those accidentally head butted into your eye!
Congrats to your friend for her Everest victory — that’s really awesome! :-)
Toccata: She’s is just climbing to base camp, actually. So she’s made it all the way on her journey. Thankfully, the whole climb is rather scary.
I haven’t been to a foam party before…they have them here too…kind of sketchy. I’m a fan of the dance clubs with various levels playing different music. Less disease spread that way, sans foam.
Ali: I shall defintely look out for next time, thankfully this time my eye was saved.
I know, she’s chuffed. Can’t wait to hear full details.
Ah, a multi-subject post. So economical and probably great for the environment- packing all those subjects into one! ;-)
HB to mom, congrats to friend, shame on headbutting-dude (although my inner seven year old finds that kinda funny, too), hope the tea with friend was relaxing.
i like the multi level dance clubs too.
Whitenoise: Perhaps my signature, what can I say. :)
Twas a good weekend, and just have to laugh at the headbutting-dude. I hope no one else is caught in harms way.
668: They are pretty fab, I wish there were more of them here.
it’s something i was not aware of until i went back east.
Wow, rockstar is right. I wish I could/had done something fabulous. Does mopping the floor last week count?
Head butts huh?…not pretty. Did he have a club in his hand or drag women out by their hair? Fred Flinstone even has better moves I’m sure.
Ha, my Dad was never sure of his birth year…Mom clarified that it was 1937 but he thinks it might be ’38. I guess they didn’t have calendars back then?
668: i guess i’m not looking in the right places. :)
Deb: I know, pretty amazing eh, I sat on my butt most of last week, so I haven’t done much better.
Haha! No club, thankfully. But I can honestly say I have never had that happen to me before.
Apparently not eh, I’m glad its not just my family. ;)
Ahhh! you have a friend on Everest right now?
I thought we were after climbing season?
I’m now reading Into Thin Air about the terrible climb of ’96.
Don’t read it until your friend is down.
High altitude is debilitating, mentally and physically. I’m sure your friend understand this.
Is there a blog or something to keep track of her progress?
She got to base camp on the weekend, yes. So I guess climbing season isn’t over!
Yeah, she’s home in a few days, I’ll wait until then. She mentioned a few of those things when I heard from her.
No, she’s not that with technology, but when I hear more I’ll update!
Getting to base camp on Everest is quite an achievement in the alpine climbing world… yes do tell when she gets back. And I highly – snort, get it? – recommend Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
I’m still waiting to hear all the details, she back for only a few days before she jets off to Thailand, so whenever I hear them, I will pass them along. :)
