If the Green Party and the NDP joined forces think of the possibilities. According to the latest polls (together) they are surpassing the Liberals. And what the heck was Jack Layton thinking not wanting the Green Party in the debates? Thankfully, that situation has been addressed, and all parties and leaders will get a chance to debate now. And is it just me, or do you think the debates should be sooner than Oct. 1? You know, considering the election is Oct. 14.
Hey that’s funny, I’ve often fantasized about a Green/NDP alliance as well, but I think they are actually quite far apart ideologically. If they ever did join though, it would be a no-brainer where I would place my vote.
And I think that’s the reasoning for Layton objecting to May being in the debates – the Greens stealing votes from the NDs.
They could have the debate tomorrow as far as I am concerned.
I must admit, I don’t know all that much about the Green Party, I need to some research, I just know the basics, but I thought they were closer, hmm.
I don’t know why its not sooner, although I guess its mid-way during the whole election.
Green Party is actually very conservative ideologically. That’s what’s very frightening to me, because many people assume that because of their environmental stance, they’re a left-leaning party when they are actually fairly far right.
Yeah, I was listening to May speak last night and learned a few things. I’m looking forward to the debates, and I hope people get out and vote. Fingers crossed that the results are a Conservative majority.
I confess my ignorance with regards to Canadian politics.
well, now at least you know there is an election taking place. :)
Why is it that everywhere else they know about American politics, but in America we know nothing about the politics of everywhere else?
Do you really want me to answer that? ;)
A conservative majority? blech – lol – I would feel like I was living out a nightmare if that happened. But that being said, how good are the alternatives these days?
I will certainly be looking forward to the debate, because if most people are like me, they will be needing a refresher on what these parties actually stand for.
It would be nice to have the debates earlier, but given that this whole thing exists in such a short time span, I think it’s OK. I also like that given the limited time, we don’t have to hear all of the parties bash one another for quite so long.
Jack layton is scared to death of the Greens. They’d all better get together quickly and unite the left otherwise…
Todd: Gah! I just responded to this comment and then it deleted! Boo.
Well, it seems like that could happen. People seem to be sleeping during this election. The NDP are my alternative.
I’m looking forward to the debates too, we all need a refresher, can never hurt and hope real issues will be talked out.
Yes the limited time makes for less bashing. Good thing in my opinion.
Gifted Typist: I was thinking more alongside the total votes combined, its frustrating only having two “major” parties. Yes, the left needs a shake up.
