random photo from the archives i was alerted to today. i may have posted this before. brother and i sometime in the 80s. my facial expression kind of sums our relationship.

does honey go bad? i can’t find an expiry date on the one in my cupboard but its looking as though its seen better days.

i would like to know who invented soda crackers. seeing as its the only thing i can keep down these days, they are my new hero.

i had a dream last night that took place in alvin and the chipmunks’ front yard. i think because when i watched the L word the other day the theme song was sped up and sounded as though alvin and the chipmunks were singing it. why does my brain remember what their front yard looked like?

the fire alarm went off yesterday. i had to leave the flat wearing bits of my superhero costume aka my pjs.

i saw a clarinet busker last week. twas good. i kept forgetting to mention that.

i’ve been sick for the past few days. my fever broke this eve, now just a regular ear infection and what the doctor thinks is strep throat. i’m not sure why i have been so sick this past year. and why i keep getting strep when my tonsils were removed when i was 9. i always seem to get sick when i have laundry to do, or after i have just gone grocery shopping. so i have all these lovely veggies in as i was gonna make lasagna but i don’t have the energy to do so.

also, things not to do when you’re sick – watch cheesy romantic comedies. just made me depressed, reminding me that i’m alone and most likely to die alone as well. dramatics could be the cold meds talking.

yep. that’s about it for me. oh, something that shocked me today – a friend told me they had never had a milkshake before. i did not know those people existed. unless of course you are allergic to milk and such. ;)

songs of the minute: rages of babylon – joseph arthur & felicity – orange juice

  • Look at that little face! I just want to squish it. It’s disturbing how much you remind me in that photo of my niece whom I’m going up to the airport to meet for a couple of hours layover tomorrow. She always had the most expressive face as a kid too.

Did your macrophages not listen when I told them that you are to stop being sick already? Get better, but if in doubt, ditch the honey. I think it can get rancid, but you’d likely notice.

I haven’t listened to Orange Juice in ages! Yay!

  • Honey does not go bad, but it will crystallize. To bring it back to life, give it a hot water bath (i.e. keep the honey in its container, put the container in a pot of water and turn the heat on).

Strep is one of 3 causes of tonsillitis, but removing your tonsils doesn’t prevent strep as it is a bacterial infection in your throat, not in your tonsils. Currently, they have actually stopped removing tonsils unless there is a serious problem with them, as they have found that they do actually serve a purpose and are part of the body’s filter system.

  • Hope you are feeling better soon.

As for your friend, perhaps they had ordered a milkshake before but each time they do a mustachioed fiend who has a very long straw drinks their milkshake.

  • I agree with Barb about the honey. better not risk it! I hope you feel better soon. I’ve been sick far too much this winter too. People at work are thinking of shooting me to put me out of my misery :O( I’m feelin ok tonight though (may have something to do with the fact that tomorrow is a day off haha) I am stunned to hear there are people out there who have never had a milkshake!!! Seriously wow!

  • *I did actually have to bring back my own honey to life recently. I can assure you that this will work. You could also put it in the microwave, but it will probably burn, which is why indirect heat is better. Honey is somewhat of a miracle food, and it does not expire ever. Only crystallizes. But, if you don’t trust me, google it.

  • That picture is just too perfect. Your expression is absolutely priceless.

Not to sound all motherly on you but I’m worried about you. You are sick far too often. Start eating those vegies. Maybe you just need some good Canadian clear air.

  • Barb: Haha! I’ve always been one to wear my feeling on my face (gets me in trouble sometimes though).

Yeah I think I will just get new honey, its not that its crystalized its just looking like mold or something is growing in it. The same thing happened to the jam I bought here – I didn’t think jam could go bad after a few weeks!

Maggie: Well, its organic honey and its not crystalized its started to grow weird things inside (as I noticed this morning). I have had to put honey in the microwave before too. I think there’s just something off about this batch.

I think I caught the Strep from my friend, apparently. She had it last week and I was with her for most of that time.

Fearless: Thanks, I think its one of those worst before better situations.

That could be the case. They should watch who they sell the straws too.

Mel: I hope you start to feel completely better soon. Its such rubbish getting sick every 6 weeks. My throat hates me.

    I know. I was stunned too. :)

Toccata: Its one of my favourites.

I think its a combination of the weather too. So warm, and then we got a cold snap. Maybe when I go home and its still cold it will kill all the germs in my body!
